Perfect Picnic Spots
There are heaps of fantastic local places to take Dad for his special day - find them all here. Here we have chosen our favourite spots for a lovely Father's Day picnic:
Coundon Wedge is an attractive stretch of countryside on the north-west outskirts of Coventry. Predominantly grassland with mature trees and hedgerows, it is criss-crossed by footpaths, making it readily accessible to all. It's a popular area for walks, and there's plenty of open space for a picnic and to let the kids run around.
Spencer Park in Earlsdon is a great place for a picnic, and a family game of football or frisbee! There is a large triangular open grassed area, bordered by a beautiful avenue of trees, and overlooking the rear of King Henry VIII School. Plenty of shady spots and a fun playground area make it a perfect spot for a family day out.
Wyken Pool is the largest expanse of water in Coventry. The rough grassland, scrub and marsh near the pool support a rich variety of wildlife and is an area of natural beauty. It's a beautiful spot to sit amongst the wildlife and enjoy a picnic. Don't forget to bring food for the swans!
Family Friendly Walks
For a detailed guide to family friendly walks in Coventry, read our article here. Here are our favourites for a special Daddy's Day Out:
Pack a picnic and head out for the day on one of these scenic walks. This series of circular walks range from 2.5 to 12 miles in length, all contained within a 6.5 mile radius from the centre of Coventry. All routes are off-road in the countryside with regular stiles to pass through.
This is a 6 mile gentle circular route along Millennium Way, starting and ending opposite the Queen & Castle in Kenilworth. There are no stiles and the walk is dog friendly apart from some farm livestock. Why not pack some lunch and make a day of it!
