From steam engines and interactive technology displays to spectacular Planetarium shows and the child-sized world of MiniBrum there is so much for children to do and learn at Thinktank!
Mini Brum
MiniBrum is Thinktank’s very own mini city, where children are in charge!
This interactive gallery is aimed at children under 8 years old. This exciting child-sized world features recognisable landmarks, such as the Birmingham canals, Selfridges and the Old Joe Clock Tower at the University of Birmingham. It features several different play zones for children to discover and enjoy, including a shop, salon, health centre, construction zone, and a workshop! Find out more here.
MiniBrum also features a coffee corner which sells refreshments and snacks, a buggy park, lockers, accessible toilets and baby change facilities.
Science Garden
The Science Garden is an outdoor discovery space packed with surprises and fun activities for the whole family. It offers an adventurous and entertaining day out, bringing themes of engineering, mechanics and transportation to life through over 30 hands-on exhibits.
Visitors of all ages can get ‘bodies on’ with exciting and inventive exhibits including an eight metre high clanging ‘Terminus’ machine and a giant human-sized hamster wheel that has a top speed of 30 revolutions per minute. Find out more here.
Discover The Past

See the iconic Spitfire and Hurricane aircraft hanging above your head. Over 11,000 Spitfires were built in Birmingham during World War Two. Stand behind the controls of the massive City of Birmingham steam locomotive and find out how it worked. Find out more here.

Thinktank Planetarium
The new 4K planetarium system has brighter, sharper images and crystal clear surround-sound. It the only one of its kind in the West Midlands. Step inside Thinktank’s Planetarium and explore the outer reaches of space, get up close to constellations, journey through the night-sky and adventure through the solar system! Find out more here.
