Kenilworth Greenway

The Kenilworth to Berkswell Greenway is a linear Country Park set in the beautiful South Warwickshire countryside. It is popular with walkers, athletes, cyclists, horse riders, educationalists, life scientists, geologists and industrial archaeologists.

History of Kenilworth Greenway

The railway branch line from Berkswell to Kenilworth Junction was opened in 1884. It effectively provided a short cut avoiding Coventry for freight trains heading south. Rumour has it that it was used in the war for the transport of munitions.

Left to itself, the old railway became a wildlife corridor. Hawthorn, birch and other plants quickly took hold and softened the edges, animals and birds found cover for dens and nests.

Warwickshire County Council took ownership of the route in the 1970′s but apart from work to clear a wider path, it was left to the walkers and the wildlife.

Activities along The Greenway

  • Dog walking
  • Geocaching
  • Horse riding

Cycling at Kenilworth Greenway

There is a lovely circular cycle route encompassing just over 7 miles of leafy suburbs, winding country roads and peaceful cycle tracks. The start location is the Xcel Leisure Centre. Find all the details here.

Access

The Greenway, as well as being a linear Country Park, is a permissive bridleway which means that it can be used by pedestrians, cyclists and horse-riders.

All users of the route are asked to take care and be mindful of others when accessing and using the Greenway. This is a multi-use amenity and should be enjoyed by all.

Parking at Kenilworth Greenway

Dedicated parking is provided at Crackley Lane Bridge.

Alternative suggested parking is at:

  • Abbey Fields Car Park, Bridge Street, Kenilworth.
  • Princes Drive Industrial Estate (off Coventry Road), Kenilworth.
  • Crackley Wood Local Nature Reserve, Crackley Lane.
