"Urban Calisthenics is fantastic for beginners. The community is really supportive and welcoming and the coaches are not only knowledgeable, they also push you just enough. I did the 4 week beginners course, and I learnt more than I could have imagined. Whilst actually having fun, which I never thought was possible in a gym." - Google review

"The coaches at Urban Calisthenics are fantastic, setting challenging but realistic exercises, and always showing variations to suit all levels. As a beginner, I like seeing what I'm working towards, but being able to practice beginner friendly moves which I can develop as I become stronger. The groups are always supportive and welcoming." - Google review

Kids Calisthenics FAQ

What is calisthenics? Calisthenics is bodyweight strength training that builds strength, mobility and control using movements like push-ups, squats and core holds - no heavy weights needed.

Can kids do calisthenics? What age is suitable? Yes -kids can safely take part in calisthenics when exercises are age-appropriate, fun and supervised. Urban Calisthenics typically accepts children from around age 5 and up.

What will my child do in a session? Kids progress through a curriculum of bodyweight exercises, mobility drills, games and team activities that build functional strength, balance and confidence.

Do children need experience or fitness before starting? No prior experience or fitness level is required. Calisthenics is adaptable to every ability and builds strength over time.

How often should children train calisthenics? For active kids, 1–2 sessions per week is a good start and helps complement other activities.

Is calisthenics safe? Yes -when taught with correct technique and progression, calisthenics is considered safe and often gentler on joints than many high-impact sports. Coaches prioritise technique and injury prevention.

Where are the classes held? Urban Calisthenics runs kids classes in Canley, Coventry - the address is 180 Fletchamstead Highway, CV4 7BB.

Do you need equipment? Minimal gear is required - many movements use just bodyweight. While classes use basic aids like mats, bands and parallettes, much progress can happen with minimal equipment. However, there is no need for expensive gym equipment that takes up lots of space.
