WaterWAYS join in with the family friendly city-wide creative celebration and exploration of Coventry’s hidden blue spaces and waterways.

Take a wander with free family friendly activities from the Canal and River Trust, Warwickshire Wildlife Trust, Coventry City Council Parks Team, and Ludic Rooms.

Thursday 28th April - Sunday 1st May

Taking place on the Coventry Canal, River Sherbourne and other water bodies in the city, activities include guided walks, kayaking, cycle tours, poetry readings and storytelling.

Pick up your Jacks Frog – Frog Walk and Walk With Me (Talking Birds) trail maps from the city of culture shop, Canal and River Trust visitor centre and Playwrights café. 

Tickets & Booking

ALL activities, excluding the Crewdson & Cevanne EP launch, are free and family friendly.

Events:

Friday 29th April | 10am - 3pm

  • Visit Coventry Canal Basin-  - Free storytelling and water-themed activities from the Canal and River Trust education boat – no booking necessary.

May Bank Holiday weekend 30th April and 1st May | 5.30pm - 7.30pm

  • Free music from The Village Butty . There will also be a very special EP launch, Rites for Crossing Water, from electronic folk duo, Crewdson & Cevanne. The performance begins at 9:00pm at the Coal Vaults, Coventry Canal Basin and tickets need to be booked in advance. Tickets are £12, which includes a Rites for Crossing Water book.

Saturday 30th April 

  • WaterWAYS will continue in the Canal Basin on where you can relax, explore and experience life by the water. 
  • Join Roam + Dwell from Ludic Rooms in the Canal Basin from 10am – 4pm for free playful activities. Ludic Rooms is fascinated by folk cultures in the 21st Century, we will mark May Day with both traditional and tech-based versions of Maypole dancing, together with music, garland-making, yoga and robots!  
  • Drop into free storytelling and craft sessions for all the family, or sign up for an ecology and heritage walk, have a go kayaking or join a cycle along the canal – there is something for everyone. 
  • Unwind and relax to the sounds of the folk quartet the Norfolk Broads as they perform from the Village Butty.
  • As the sun starts to set across the water, unwind and join Muslim Hikers in the canal basin for a multifaith celebration and Iftar feast – tickets must be booked in advance for the walk and feast. All welcome to join the celebration.
