Steam Trains at Statfold Country Park | Roundhouse Museum & Model Railways
The highlight for many is, of course, the trains – and there are plenty of them!
We started in the Roundhouse Museum, which is incredible for seeing so many steam engines in one place. Upstairs, the Model Railway Exhibition was a big hit with the girls – they loved being able to control the trains by twiddling the knobs.
Statfold Country Park is home to the award-winning Statfold Barn Railway, offering unlimited rides on narrow-gauge trains through the countryside and woodland areas. The kids hadn't been on a Steam Train before so this was very exciting, and they really enjoyed waving to passers by.
We also hopped on a miniature train ride around the park - with the option to hop off and enjoy a circular woodland walk at Mallard Halt. We all really enjoyed the miniature train ride with Mease Valley Light Railway, and the driver was super friendly too.
The unlimited train rides throughout the day make it feel really relaxed – you can just keep exploring at your own pace.

Indoor Activities at Statfold Country Park | Soft Play, Climbing & Inflatable Zone
We spent a good chunk of time in Toby’s Soft Play Barn, which was clean, spacious and not overcrowded at all (a big win!). It’s completely train-themed and includes:
- A three-tier soft play structure
- A dedicated baby and toddler area
- A small climbing wall (included)
- Clip & Climb (additional charge)
Outside, there was also an Inflatable Fun Zone with a bouncy castle and slide – perfect for burning off extra energy.

Picnic Spots & Food Option at Statfold Country Park
We took a picnic and ate outside in the courtyard in the sunshine, which was lovely. There are plenty of picnic benches available so you’re never short of space.
If you prefer to buy food, Dianne’s Diner offers everything from kids’ lunch boxes and sandwiches to hot meals like burgers and jacket potatoes, plus cakes and coffee.
There’s also Peelers Bar for drinks, and little touches like a toy train play area and colouring sheets that made it really family-friendly.

National Fairground Museum in Tamworth
The National Fairground Museum is like stepping back in time – full of nostalgic charm and interactive fun. Entry is included in the ticket price, you just need to buy tokens for the rides. Inside you’ll find:
- Helter skelter
- Dodgems
- Carousel
- Ghost train
- Crazy mirrors
- 2p slot machines
- Moon rocket
We couldn’t resist the bumper cars – which were an absolute hit!

Mini Golf & Extra Activities
We also played Fellumpa Mini Golf, which is included in the ticket price and really fun for all ages – a great way to wind down the day.
We also spotted the Retro Roller Disco, which looked incredible with families skating, music playing and a bar inside. Definitely one for our next visit!

Final Thoughts
Statfold Country Park is one of those places that genuinely feels like a hidden gem. There is so much to do, yet it never felt rushed or overcrowded.
From steam trains and museums to soft play, fairground rides and open countryside space, it’s a brilliant all-weather family day out.
We left feeling like we’d only scratched the surface – and we’ll absolutely be back to explore even more!
