The War Memorial Park is Coventry's premier park and attracts around 400,000 visitors from all over the city and beyond every year.

War Memorial Park | Parks in Coventry

Roughly 48.5 hectares in size, the park is made up of two areas: the formal garden with the War Memorial, and the sports area with playing fields, golf course, Splash 'n' Play Park and play areas. There is also a 1.6 mile circular footpath around the park.

You will find historic landmarks, sculptures and themed gardens around the site, look out for the plaques for more information.

Facilities at War Memorial Park:

Children's play area
There are play facilities suitable for a variety of ages, and a good number of picnic benches nearby for a well earned rest. The play area has the following:

  • 4 toddler swings
  • 2 junior swings
  • Birds nest swing
  • 2 Slides
  • Spring see saw
  • Small multi play with slide
  • Gravity bowl
  • Large wooden climbing frame with rope climb
  • Sandpit with play equipment

Splash 'n' Play Water Park
During the summer school holidays, younger visitors can enjoy an added attraction, the Splash 'n' Play Park.
Children can play in 36 water jets, with water rising to 1.5m to 2m in height. The central jets are surrounded by four other water features - the 'Popits' and 'Water Ring' (suitable for under 8's) and the 'Mushroom' and 'Drencher', (suitable for 8 - 12 year olds).

Toilets and Baby Changing
There are toilets and baby changing facilities at the Visitor Centre and Cafe Pavillion. For the Pavillion, you may need to pop into the cafe for the key at quieter times. Opening times 9am - 4:30pm.

Cafe at War Memorial Park
There are three food outlets in the park:

  • The Park Bistro (at the Tennis office) - serving breakfast, small plates, afternoon tea and supper. 
  • Sundae Club (at the Visitor Centre) - 50s inspired diner serving crepes, waffles and ice cream. 
  • Gelato Bar (by the skatepark) - serving a wide selection of icecreams, snacks, hot and cold drinks 

Aviary at War Memorial Park
There is a small brick built aviary in War Memorial Park, housing eleven species of birds. The aviary is easy to spot from the Children's Play Area due to the stunning bird images painted onto the exterior walls.

Skate Park
The skatepark features a mini ramp, flat bank, quarter pipe, pyramid, driveway and hubba. Suitable for skateboarding, skating, blading and BMX biking.

War Memorial
The War Memorial was built in 1927 and is around 90 feet high. Inside the Memorial is a room called the Chamber of Silence. Every year on Remembrance Sunday, it is open for the public to view the "Roll of the Fallen", books listing all of the Coventry servicemen who were killed in the two World Wars and even as recently as the Gulf War.

Missing Faces Project
The War Memorial Park has around 800 memorial trees dedicated to those who lost their lives in conflict. There is a display in the new Visitor Centre which shows the photographs of the 264 people killed during the First World War who have a memorial plaque and tree in the park.

Sports Facilities at War Memorial Park
The sports facililties in the park include:

  • 10 floodlit tennis courts
  • 12 football pitches
  • Footgolf
  • Flat green bowls
  • 18-hole FootGolf course (9-hole and 18-hole rounds available).
  • Cricket pitch

Charges are made for using these facilities, which helps with the cost of maintaining the park. Telephone the park for details.

Outdoor Fitness Trail
The outdoor fitness trail is located between the Kenilworth Road car park, and the visitor centre. It contains 9 exercise stations and is designed for people over 1.4m:

  • Abs bench
  • Chin ups
  • Arm stretch
  • Horizontal ladder
  • Gate climb
  • Hurdles
  • Run and leap
  • Parallel bars
  • Balance beams

Visitor Centre
There is a Visitor Centre in the main pavilion, which provides a small shop selling souvenirs and refreshments, toilets, baby change, showers and cafe. Open daily 9am - 4pm.

There are 3 free car parks adjacent to the park:

  • Kenilworth Road
  • Leamington Road
  • Coat of Arms Bridge Road
