Before they are able to speak, babies naturally start to use a combination of gestures and sounds to help their parents understand them. For example pointing, shaking their head, clapping hands and waving ‘bye-bye’ are all natural first signs. Introducing extra gestures to your baby such as milk, more, nappy change and tired can help your baby to communicate before speech, reduce frustration and is wonderfully rewarding and fantastic fun for both parent and baby. You will be amazed by what your baby is capable of telling you before being able to talk!

Sing and Sign - What to Expect

Sing and Sign classes teach baby signing through music, songs, nursery rhymes and lots of fun interaction with musical instruments, props and the mascot Jessie Cat. Signs are used to help reduce frustration and encourage early communication between you and your baby.

In class, you will sing about what goes on in a baby’s world. Each week a different topic will be covered such as eating, bath time and nappy changes, going out to play, hiding games, bedtime and lots more. There is a high standard of educational content but classes are delivered in a relaxing, enjoyable and unpressured way for you and your baby to learn. You can read more here.

Welcome to Sing and Sign Coventry!

Hi! My name is Aimee and I am excited to be taking over the Sing and Sign franchise in Coventry and Kenilworth from April. I can't wait to share the joy of baby signing with you all and have fun through music, singing and a little help from our mascot Jessie Cat!

I first came across Sing & Sign at the start of 2020, when searching for a music based baby class in my area and was instantly hooked. My daughter and I did all three stages of Sing & Sign together, with Jan (the previous franchisee) as our teacher! I loved to see my daughter engage and interact during the classes; as well as progressing with signs and enjoying the songs, the classes supported her social skills and helped her understand sharing and turn taking with other children. 

Baby signing can really help ease those early communication frustrations often felt between baby and carer. It was lovely to see my daughter sign 'milk' and 'more' from a few months old and be able to respond and reassure her. Later, 'dog' and 'duck' were two favourites and she loved pointing them out and signing during trips to the park. Even now, 6 years later, my daughter loves listening to the Jessie Cat songbook and remembers a lot of the signs.
