Short and Easy Walks around Coventry

Walking is perfect if you want to be more active and become healthier. Coventry City Council have gathered together a range of walks around Coventry so you can walk more and feel good!

Walks in Coventry City Centre

8 city centre walking routes with maps, ranging from 12 to 30 mins.

Walks in Longford

5 walking routes with maps, ranging from 20 to 55 mins.

Walks in Willenhall

6 walking routes with maps, ranging from 20 to 55 mins.

Walks in Tile Hill & Canley

5 walking routes with maps, ranging from 25 to 50 mins.

Walks in Foleshill

6 walking routes with maps, ranging from 10 to 45 mins



Millennium Way

The Millennium Way is a beautiful 100 mile trail in the Heart of England - but don't worry, you don't have to walk all 100 miles! There are 44 fantastic circular walks covering the entire length of the Millennium Way, ranging between 3 and 10 miles in length.

We have picked three of the more local walks, which we would highly recommend:

Balsall Common Circular Walk

  • Distance: 5 miles
  • Time: Allow 2-3 hours
  • Rating: Gentle
  • Starting Point: Ye Old Saracens Head pub, Balsall Common, CV7 7AS
  • Access: There are 11 stiles and the walk is dog friendly.

Kenilworth Castle Circular Walk

  • Distance: 6.5 miles
  • Time: Allow 3 hours
  • Rating: Gentle
  • Starting Point: Car Park opposite Queen & Castle, CV8 1ND
  • Access: There are no stiles and the walk is dog friendly apart from some farm livestock.

Berkswell Circular Walk

  • Distance: 5 miles
  • Rating: Moderate
  • Time: Allow 2.5 hours
  • Starting Point: Lavender Hall Lane, Berkswell, CV7 7BJ
  • Access: Mostly flat with only a few gentle slopes. There are a several kissing gates and 5 stiles. Not suitable for pushchairs.

The Sowe Valley Footpath

The Sowe Valley is a wonderful riverside green space stretching from the North to the South of Coventry. The Sowe Valley Footpath is a way-marked, riverside stroll along the 8 1⁄2 mile route, allowing you to explore the valley on foot and experience it's highlights along the way!

A Coventry Way: 21 Circular Walks around Coventry

“A Coventry Way” is a 40 mile long distance countryside route around the outskirts of Coventry. There is a series of circular walks linked to the "A Coventry Way" route, ranging from 2.5 to 12 miles in length. The walks are contained within an area of a 6.5 mile radius from the centre of Coventry, and can be accessed using public transport.

Accessibility: Most of the routes are off-road in the countryside with regular stiles to pass through. There are also a couple of shorter, stile-free routes.

There are PDFs available of the individual walks, each with a map, route details, some local history and wildlife notes.

Allesley Park to Coundon Wedge: Circular Walk

This walk in the Allesley Village area starts at Allesley Park, heading through Allesley Village, to Coundon Wedge and looping back. It includes the Allesley Park Walled Garden which once produced fruit and vegetables for the Lord of the Manor. Take your time and look closely for bits of history dotted around the village.

  • Distance: 4 miles
  • Starting Point: The starting point is the free car park at Allesley Park, Allesley Hall Drive, CV5 9AD
  • Access: There are a small number of kissing gates on this route, making it difficult with a push chair or wheel chair.
  • Dogs: Some parts are ideal for dogs, but other parts involve farmland so best to keep dogs on a lead.

Longford Urban Circular Walk

This walk starts at Longford Nature Reserve, heading via the Coventry Canal to Hawkesbury Junction. It then connects with the stunning Wyken Slough Nature Reserve and eventually brings you back to Longford Park. It's a lovely scenic walk with lots to discover along the way.

  • Distance: 4.5 miles / 7.3 km
  • Starting Point: The starting point is Longford Nature Reserve, Coventry, CV6 7AS
  • Access: At the time of writing this route is fine for a push chair
  • Dogs: It's a great route for dogs, but we advise to keep them on the lead especially near the water's edge

Ryton Wood Figure of Eight Walk

If you've never been to Ryton Wood, then you should definitely pay it a visit! There is so much to discover! Check out this wonderful woodland walk - it's fully marked, with some brilliant 'landmarks' along the way - including wood carvings, benches, and pieces of historical interest! It's perfect for the whole family to enjoy.

  • Distance: 2 km
  • Starting Point: Start your walk by heading into Ryton Wood via the entrance from Ryton Pools Country Park.
  • Access: Paths are wide and mostly flat, but please note they can be wet and muddy in places. Not ideal for a pushchair or wheelchair.
  • Dogs: Dogs are permitted on a lead.
